Timmy finds a wolf cub, thinking is it a "lost puppy", and wants to keep it for his own despite the urging of Ellen and Jeff to release it back into the wild. (Production Note: Gramps doesn't appear in this episode. Actor George Cleveland had suffered a heart attack prior to the shooting of this episode and was hospitalized, so his pre-recorded voice calling to Jeff is used to convey his character's (Gramps)' presence.)
TRIVIA: The thriving wolf populations in the mid-west had come to an end in around the 1860's, but even a century later the stories of livestock damages from wild preditors was still very real to the mind of the 1950's farming community. At that point, however, livestock loss was generally the result of roaming dogs since all the preditor wildlife had long been killed off.
NOTE: This recording has been edited to remove commercials and to add titles and descriptions. The re-broadcast has not been stretched or modified in any way from the original film which was distributed for TV viewing in classic black and white early 1950's "square TV screen" format. "Lassie" is copyrighted and owned by Classic Media. The first 4 seasons of "Lassie" were later syndicated as "Jeff's Collie". Recorded from COZI TV in 2013 via over-the-air antenna TV.
