In this video we will be taking you to the biggest national park of central India, Kanaha National Park & Tiger Reserve. It is the only location in India where the most abundant variety of Barasingha can be found and so does to call them as the "Jewel of Kanha". Kanha National Park was declared a reserve forest in 1879 and revalued as a wildlife sanctuary in 1933. Its position was further upgraded to a national park in 1955. Tiger Reserve in 1973. There are three entry gates to this biggest national park of central India named as Katia/Kisli, Mukki, and Sarhi and it’s divided into four core zones, Kanha, Kisli, Mukki, and Sarhi. It’s supported by three buffer zones, Khatia, Khapa, and Mukki.
This vivacious land has been the source of inspiration for Rudyard Kipling, a famous writer for his outstanding creation- “The Jungle Book”. The present-day Kanha area is divided into two protected areas, Hallon and Banjar, of 250 and 300 km2 (97 and 116 sq mi), respectively. Kanha National Park was declared a reserve forest in 1879 and revalued as a wildlife sanctuary in 1933. Its position was further upgraded to a national park in 1955. Tiger Reserve in 1973.
Kanha Tiger Reserve hosts populations of tiger, leopard, wild dog, sloth bear, foxes and jackals. Barasingha (Cervus duavcelli branderi) is adapted to hard ground. Gaur (Bos gaurus) inhabits meadows and waterholes in the park. The reserve hosts around 300 species of birds and the most commonly seen birds are the black ibis, bee-eaters, blossom-headed parakeets, drongos, crested serpent eagle, grey hornbill, Indian roller, Malabar pied hornbill, woodpeckers, paradise flycatchers, mynas, red jungle fowl, red-wattled lapwing, steppe eagle, Tickell's blue flycatcher, white-eyed buzzard, white-breasted kingfisher, vultures and many more. The park is primarily a moist Sal and moist mixed deciduous forest where Bamboo, Tendu, Sal, Jamun, Arjun and Lendia flourish. It is home to over 1,000 species of flowering plants and about 300 species of birds and one of the best park for tiger safari in India.
Kanha being situated in Central India is subjected to tropical monsoonal climate. The month of January may also witness sub-zero temperatures and frost. Monsoon arrives in the second week of June. Kanha National Park remains open for the visitors from 16th October to 30th June.

By Air - Nagpur at 266 kms is the nearest Airport to visit Kanha National Park and is linked up by various domestic airline services with Mumbai.
By Rail - Jabalpur at 169 kms is the convenient rail head to visit the Kanha National Park.
By Road - Kanha National Park is well-connected by road with Jabalpur 175 kms, Khajuraho 445 kms, Nagpur 266 kms, Mukki 25 kms, Raipur 219 kms.
