As director of the Wellcome Trust, Sir Jeremy Farrar helped set up a 'COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator' alongside the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Prior to joining the Wellcome Trust in 2013, he was director of the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam for 18 years.
His research interests include infectious diseases and global health with a focus on emerging infections.
Professor Heymann is a world-leading authority on infectious disease outbreaks. He led the World Health Organization’s response to SARS and has been advising the organization on its response to the coronavirus.
