The U.S. is one of the largest foreign investors in Paraguay's small but rapidly growing open economy. Economic growth in Paraguay is based on agriculture, retail, and construction. U.S. imports from Paraguay include sugar, oil seeds, gold, and wood.
His Excellency Germán Rojas has served in the public sector as minister of finance for Paraguay in 2013 and 2014, as president of the Central Bank of Paraguay (2007–08), and as president of the National Development Bank (2003–07). In the private sector, Rojas was vice president of Sudameris Bank and advisor to the CEO of the Abbeyfield Group (Irish Investment Group). He received a BS in business administration and accounting from the Catholic University of Asunción and specialized in the economy of developing countries at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg. Rojas and his wife are the parents of three children.
