Barra de la Cruz, a village tucked away on the Oaxacan coastline far from the many hostels, bars and hotels of the region´s poster child Puerto Escondido, is as laid back as it gets. During surfing´s low season at least.
Because of its worldclass right hand wave breaking off the point Barra is on the radar of surfers worldwide. A Rip Curl Pro Search event in 2006 discovered the wave for the masses. And in the summer - they come.
I went to Barra in January 2020 twice and was lucky to get some really awesome surf. And also enjoy the quiet of the village and its lovely people.
