Authorities have started releasing toxic chemicals into the air from five derailed tanker cars that had been in danger of exploding Monday near the Ohio-Pennsylvania state.

The Ohio Emergency Management Agency says the release began Monday around 4:30 p.m., about an hour later than first expected.
