We keep getting a lot of questions here at Bioweed about different weed types. I just want to run through some different ways of identifying weed types and different classifications.
We like to class weeds in three different categories. We have woody weeds, broadleaf, and grass types.
Different types of woody weeds that are well known are lantana, English ivy, and broom.
Woody weeds are very easy to spot. They have wood-like branches. Usually they may have thorns, or they can be a shrub or a bush type of weed. Behind me, I have a blackberry, which is very easily identified, as it's got long branches with thick thorns on them. It is well known in the Southern of Australia.
Common broadleaf weeds that you can find in your lawn or your paddock are cape, scotch, thistle, and dock.
They can be easily identified in pasture and lawn situations. They usually have wider leaves and are softer in touch.
Broadleafs are well known for invading different areas due to their large number of seeds. Bioweed can help with this due to its seed control, and helping you stop spreading your weeds to season to season.
Some common grassy weeds are things like crowfoot, couch, and Parramatta grass.
These grassy weed types can be controlled by different herbicides like Bioweed. It can also help to slash down grasses that grow above 15 centimeters, which will make your weeding a lot easier.
So hopefully this will help you in identifying weeds in your garden or your pastures. If you do need help identifying a weed or you just have a question, please feel free to contact us.
