Joanna visits with Kristin Hildabrand, Horticulture Extension Agent for Warren County to talk specifically about sweet corn. It's sweet corn season. Many farmers markets have all different types of sweet corn varieties. Silver queen is a standard type of sweet corn. And there are sugar enhanced varieties that are sweeter. Some shopping tips include; 1) pull back the husk to check for kernel fill, 2) shuck is green in color, 3) look at stem end for moist stem ends, dry ends indicate that it's been picked a while ago, 4) check silks for brownness and check for corn earworm damage, and 5) go early to farmers markets, sometimes the best selection is first thing in the morning.
