This is a previously uncirculating tape of the bands first of two shows in Montreal on the legendary '78 tour. I'd like to give a huge thanks to CTDavies for being the one to transfer and share this with me to begin with, as well as to beyondthemoon for remastering it all! Onto the actual show, this is truly a standout one, and this is coming from a year full of incredible performances to begin with. Everybody is truly on it, and by on it, I mean they're playing like a well-oiled machine. Chester's fills are flashy and fast, Daryl isn't afraid to lay down some truly stellar work, Mike's as tight as ever, and even Tony is improvising more than usual. Then there's Phil's voice - he truly does sell it! This is no surprise given he's usually incredible this tour, but this really does rank as one of his best performances of the whole year. Highlights include some of the best versions of Burning Rope and Ripples, one of the definitive Fountain of Salmacis solo spots, a truly incredible Squonk, and a top-tier Lady Lies solo. Overall, I'd consider this to be one of the best shows of the tour.
