LINFOX FIRST IN THE WORLD TO ADOPT 'CULTURAL CHANGE' TO ENHANCE PUBLIC SAFETY AND SECURITY AT AVALON AIRPORT
MELBOURNE: Twelve years after 9/11, a newly released airport safety and security package, is dedicated to honouring the life and heroism of Flight AA 11 Flight Service Director Betty Ong, who alerted the world to the World Trade Centre attack.
Linfox, Australia's innovative, $3-billion-a-year integrated supply chain solution provider is the first airport owner in the world, to embrace a package designed to 'harmonize security' on commercial airports.
The workforce at Melbourne's Linfox-owned Avalon Airport started undergoing Australian-developed AVSEC-1-ALERT™ (A1A) public safety and security awareness training this week, ahead of the anniversary of 9/11.
A1A will change existing out-dated airport 'security culture'.
Group Executive Chairman of Linfox Airports, David Fox, said "Safety and security is always the number one priority at Linfox.
"Everyone goes through an induction process before working at any Linfox facility. Linfox is proud to be first to adopt the A1A program created to protect the safety and security of our airport workforce, passengers, visitors and infrastructure. We aim to do all possible to make Avalon Australia's safest airport".
CEO of Avalon Airport, Justin Giddings, said "I've undergone the A1A training alongside a diverse group of our team. It makes sense to have everyone aware of their role in reducing risk".
A1A is endorsed by the TWU of Australia and AIPA, (the Australian and International Pilots Association). The program meets all UN ICAO requirements for safety and security training. The e-learning version of A1A is available in any language for all security-cleared workers on ICAO member airports in 191 countries.
'World Aviation Security Market'; a highly respected and leading commentator on the aviation industry, last month identified the need to 'harmonize aviation security - 2013/2023'. A1A fits well with Government plans announced by Australia's new Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss, to conduct an external review of aviation safety.
A1A is designed to convert a generally disparate workforce, into a 'trained, integrated, and empowered community'. This 'community' will be, capable of providing an appropriate level of guardianship throughout an entire airport environment. The approach includes reporting and activating a response to anything unusual, suspicious or dangerous.
In Australia, A1A can engage the support and involvement of the approximately 300,000 national airport workforce. This workforce will be able to better protect their own lives, the security and safety of the traveling public, in addition to the protection of critical infrastructure worth $44-billion and airline fleets.
A1A adds to existing security measures and eliminates reliance on dated silo/stovepipe methodology, by putting 600,000 eyes and ears on full alert across the Nation, to improve vigilance.
A world first, A1A has been developed over five years by Australian security/intelligence and risk mitigation specialist including:
• Roger Henning, CEO Homeland Security Asia/Pacific
• Michael Roach, Director of Strategic Alliances HSAP
• Dr Tony Zalewski, Security and Public Safety expert.
Melbourne-based Complex Institute of Education, Australia's premier Security and Risk Management focused Registered Training Organisation, with around 30 years' security training and related experience, is the A1A Master Licensee responsible for worldwide distribution.
A1A involves everyone working on an airport from the executive team to cleaners, baggage handlers, tanker drivers, airline staff, car rental agents, retailers, restaurant, bar and fast food staff. Training is available to the entire airfreight industry, Customs, Immigration and Quarantine personnel.
Each participant will earn a Certificate of Competency after completing the modules. A1A will help address the infiltration of airports by organised crime gangs, reduce theft and malicious damage and to cope with all incidents.
