WHO TELLS YOUR STORY? celebrates changemakers from diverse communities whose stories may not be included in American history books.
In this next installment of Who Tells Your Story? Rotana Tarabzouni pays tribute to Faiza Almontaser.
In 2006, Faiza Almontaser immigrated with her family to Brooklyn, New York, from a small farming town in Yemen. As the only Muslim in her new middle school, she faced vicious bullying because of her Islamic identity. Paired with the legendary Albert Maysles through the BYkids mentorship program, Faiza created 'Poet Against Prejudice,' a documentary film about her courageous journey from victim to activist. The piece was produced in association with TheaterWorksUSA, with film clips courtesy of BYKids.
Like Faiza, songwriter Rotana Tarabzouni also immigrated to the United States. Rotana was born and raised in Saudi Arabia and moved to California to pursue her education and music career. Her songs are about love, freedom, and human rights.
