Ordered these beautiful 120mm White LED 3pin/molex fans from Amazon for $14.99 for a pack of three to round out a new PC build. As my friend was on a tight budget we opted for these fans to add a little bit of bling! LOL
We were blown away by the design, look and brightness of these fans. Absolutely stunning! That's the good news. The bad news? Oh boy... THEY ARE LOUD AF. So I went into the BIOS to tweak the fan curves / fan speed profiles to no avail. Best I could accomplish was basically On (LED's bright but fan is FULL RPM) or Off (Fans Silent but no LED lights at all). There is literally no in between here. Disappointing.
So, cussing at the fans asking if they want to play hard ball I break out my manual molex fan speed controllers. And you guessed it, dropped voltage enough to slow down the fans and try to keep the led's on but not good enough to make the fans quiet. So.... that's the caveat. On or Off... no middle ground even when using an analog manual fan speed controller. Old school nob based to be clear. When dropping the voltage to the level where the LED's turn off the fans are still fairly audible. They only go silent when dropping all the way down to 500rpm.
It's unfortunate because damn these look sooo good. So if aesthetics are all you need and noise is not an issue for your setup / project go for it. But you've been warned... if you want LED's and silence look elsewhere.
*Pay no mind to the pulsating, they do not.. that is just my phone's camera trying to adjust. They bright and vibrant solid fans.
