Partha Chatterjee, a former West Bengal minister, and his companion Arpita Mukherjee were placed under judicial custody on Friday for a period of 14 days in connection with an investigation into the SSC appointments scam's financial trail. Jibon Kumar Sadhu, the judge of the PMLA Special Court, ruled that both of the accused must remain in prison till August 18. Mukherjee was transferred to the Alipore women's prison, while Chatterjee was placed in the Presidency prison. On August 18, the jail administrator must submit a report on both of the accused's general safety and security. The court has given authorization to question both defendants while they are in judicial custody in the presence of an investigative officer and two Enforcement Directorate personnel.
