STORYLINE:
A small bomb exploded in a McDonald's restaurant in Beirut on Saturday wounding a child, police said, the latest incident to highlight the rising anti-American sentiments in Lebanon due to the war in Iraq.
A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the bomb exploded Saturday afternoon in the bathroom of a McDonald's in the northern Beirut suburb of Dora.
A child was wounded in the explosion, which also caused damage to the restaurant, the officials said.
There were no other details on the bomb explosion and police were investigating.
The incident comes days after other anti-American and British acts in Lebanon, where people are angry over the US-British invasion of Iraq.
There have been several pro-Iraq demonstrations in front of the US and British embassies since the war began on March 20, and both countries have warned their citizens to be cautious while in Lebanon.
On March 24, a small bomb went off at a British cultural centre in Beirut but caused no injuries, and last week a man stormed a British bank in Beirut with explosives strapped to his body threatening to detonate himself before
surrendering to police.
On Thursday, the US Embassy urged American citizens to consider leaving Lebanon, and, if staying, to exercise caution.
In November, an American nurse was shot dead at a clinic in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon where she worked.
Investigators have not determined whether her killing was linked to anti-US sentiments in the Middle East or to her Christian missionary work in a Muslim town.
