In preparation for the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President, JP Nadda, has taken a significant step by revamping his team. In a bid to infuse fresh energy and perspective, several familiar faces have been dropped, making way for young and promising leaders. The much-anticipated list of the restructured team was unveiled on a Saturday, the 29th of July.
The reshuffled team now boasts 13 Vice Presidents and 9 General Secretaries, a dynamic mix of experience and youth. Among the new Vice Presidents are notable figures such as former Chief Ministers Raman Singh, Vasundhara Raje, and Raghubar Das, along with Saudan Singh, Baijayant Panda, Saroj Pandey, Rekha Sharma, D K Aruna, Chuba Ao, Abdullakkutty, Laxmikant Bajpai, Lata Usendi, and Tariq Mansoor. The General Secretaries' roster includes distinguished names like Arun Singh, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Dushyant Kumar Gautam, Tarun Chugh, Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Sanjay Bandi, and Radhamohan Agarwal, with B L Santhosh holding the crucial position of National General Secretary (Organisation).
Interestingly, the team also accommodates Bandi Sanjay Kumar, former Telangana BJP President, now taking on the role of National General Secretary, adding valuable experience and regional expertise to the leadership. Another noteworthy addition is Anil Antony, the son of senior Congress leader and former Defence Minister A K Antony, who recently joined the BJP and has been appointed as National Secretary.
Further elevations in the team include Rajya Sabha MP Radha Mohan Agrawal, now serving as National General Secretary, and MLC and former Aligarh Muslim University Vice-Chancellor, Tariq Mansoor, taking on the responsibility of BJP Vice-President. The BJP has also gained the leadership of former Telangana state minister Etela Rajendra, who now chairs the BJP Election Management Committee, and former Andhra Pradesh CM Kiran Kumar Reddy, joining as a National Executive Member.
On the other hand, the party bid farewell to some leaders, who have been replaced by their counterparts. D Purandeshwari took over as the new BJP State President of Andhra Pradesh, succeeding Somu Verraju. Similarly, Bandi Sanjay was replaced as the State President of Telangana by Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.
As part of the restructuring process, some leaders were relieved of their previous responsibilities. Notably, Karnataka Leader CT Ravi and Assam Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia were dropped as BJP General Secretaries. Additionally, former Union Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Bihar, Radha Mohan Singh, was relieved of his position as Party Vice President.
In a significant development, Sunil Jakhar, who made the switch from Congress to BJP, has been appointed as the Chief of Punjab State, further bolstering the party's presence in the region.
The comprehensive restructuring of the BJP leadership aims to inject fresh perspectives, bring in new ideas, and ensure a dynamic approach towards the upcoming elections. With a blend of experienced stalwarts and young, promising leaders, the BJP aims to secure a third term and continue its governance for the betterment of the nation.
