Three Superb Eurofighter Typhoon Performance Takeoffs from RAF Coningsby.
So, if you are new to these takeoffs or don't know what they are called as a terminology, these types of takeoffs are called a 'Performance Takeoff' (alternatively called Unrestricted Climb, there is something called a Quick Climb, but I will explain this further down).
So what are Performance Takeoffs and what is the purpose of these (other than being a spectacular sight for us behind the fence)? Performance takeoffs are basically when an aircraft takes off like a rocket, whacking on those reheats and and then in seconds will climb at a steep angle or climb vertically, accelerating all the way. The Eurofighter Typhoon has a 1:1 thrust to weight ratio, making it a master of performance takeoffs.
The purpose can be for clearing barriers in a flightpath, taking off on small runways or areas surrounded by obstacles in the area. So to achieve this, full reheats (afterburners) are lit and the pilot will pull back the stick to climb vertically (either near or full vertical). An 'Unrestricted Climb' is another term used, this I guess is literally clearing the aircraft to have no limits in its climb during takeoff.
Quick Climbs, another type of similar (if not the same thing) from what I have seen is when an aircraft will accelerate with full reheats at a very low altitude (say about 100ft maybe) and keep this height until after clearing the runway and pull very hard on the stick climbing ridiculously to its chosen flight level.
I have heard all three terms, maybe someone could clarify if I am right? Or do you know the differences? I can only assume from Quick Climb that it literally is a 'Quick' one. Unrestricted has no limits and are both elements of a performance takeoff. I have never heard the term 'Performance Takeoff' at RAF Lakenheath but have heard Unrestricted Climb at RAF Coningsby. Lakenheath tends to use the term Quick Climb on the radio.
I missed the second Typhoon reg but the first one was ZK339 and the third Typhoon from XI Fighter Squadron was ZK341.
