In this video, Periwinkle has left her mizzen at home and set the mainsail as a Standing Lug Cat. The Fulmar (which is slightly longer than normal having been built with the station spacing increased) has taken in one reef, but is setting the full jib.
This clip is very instructive for those who think that you need a jib (or staysail) to get up to windward, and who also think that lugsails are, (a) slow; (b) not close winded; and (c) think that cat rigs are not as close-winded as sloops.
Note also that the lugsail is on the "bad tack" - i.e. the mast is on the leeward side of the sail, disturbing the flow on the low-pressure side of the sail, and also putting a big vertical lump in the sail!
