President Joe Biden is making remarks on the situation in Afghanistan after a virtual meeting with G7 leaders.

Mr Biden told the G7 virtual summit to discuss the Afghanistan crisis with allied leaders that he will adhere to the self-imposed 31 August deadline to withdraw American forces from Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, the Taliban said there would be no extension of the 31 August deadline set by the US to withdraw troops from the nation, despite evacuations potentially taking longer.

However, according to reports, the president was hit with demands from the UK, France and others during the G7 meeting to hold Kabul airport past the deadline in order to get westerners and Afghan refugees to safety.
