The Afghanistan government has launched the reconstruction of the Salang Tunnel as its second-largest development project in the country. The Salang Corridor is the primary route connecting Kabul to Northern Afghanistan and Central Asia. At an altitude of almost 3,400 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest and most dangerous tunnels in the world. It was initially designed for 2,000 vehicles per day.
