"This fact-finding mission was created to investigate alleged human rights violations in the Islamic republic of Iran related to the protests on the 16th of September 2022 and especially with respect to women and children. When the UN Human Rights Council established this new mandate, it asked us to do three things. First of all to investigate these allegations, secondly to establish the surrounding fact and circumstances, and thirdly, to collect and analyze the evidence of these violations and to preserve that evidence, including in lieu of any possible cooperation with future legal proceedings. In carrying out this mandate we will engage with the government of the Islamic republic of Iran, and also with relevant stakeholders. Our approach is to be independent, impartial , to listen a range of voices, and most importantly to take a victim oriented approach to establishing the facts," says Sara Hossein, chair of the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
