The 16th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) opened on Tuesday in northern Malaysia's island after a four-year hiatus.
The opening ceremony, with an air show in front of the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre, was held in the presence of Malaysian Defense Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
The ceremony also included special forces' combat drills and pyrotechnic blasting displays.
At the invitation of the organizer, Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force's Bayi aerobatic team staged its first performance abroad using J-10C fighter jets.
The J-10C is a supersonic, multipurpose fighter jet developed independently by China that is capable of maintaining short- and medium-range air supremacy, and can strike both ground and sea targets.
The PLA Navy's guided-missile destroyer Zhanjiang has also arrived in the waters off Langkawi to take part in the exhibition, scheduled for Tuesday through Saturday.
First launched in 1991, the biannual event is a platform for various forums in maritime and aerospace industries, bringing together representatives of associated sectors as well as officials and decision-makers from a number of countries.
The organizer predicts a turnout of 45,000 delegates and trade visitors and a further 250,000 members of the public over the course of the event.
