It is a privilege to be a part of this team, coming together to celebrate the exquisite language of Kiswahili. This year's theme centers around the splendor of Beautiful Swahili, a language that now resonates with over 200 million individuals around the globe. These festivities will amalgamate music, culture, arts, and cuisine in some of London's most iconic venues. With the support of Swahili-speaking communities in the UK, transcending geographical boundaries and international waters, this event marks a realization of a cherished dream for Junior Sheikh. His aspiration to unify communities from the African continent is finally being fulfilled.
Returning to the River Room holds a special significance, as it was here on July 7, 2022, that the foundation was laid for bringing together the diaspora from Swahili-speaking nations. This day, as well as the days to come, will honor those who have raised awareness and advocated for the prominence of Kiswahili.
With a career steeped in broadcasting, including roles at the national broadcaster and leadership of independent broadcast networks in Kenya, as well as overseeing community radio stations in the UK, I extend my gratitude. A special thank you goes to The Lord Paul Boateng, whose last-minute assistance was instrumental in making Kiswahili Day 2022 a reality.
To Your Excellencies, we extend our thanks and anticipation. We look forward to welcoming you all tomorrow at the Westminster Central Hall.
