YSR Congress Party national president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has written a five-page letter to President Ramnath Kovind, asking him to intervene and initiate action against 20 MLAs and one MLC, who were elected on the YSRC symbol, but defected to the TDP subsequently.
Charging Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with “masterminding” defections, Mr. Jagan said his party made several petitions to the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, demanding suspension of the MLAs and the MLC under the provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, but no action had been initiated against them though six months had passed.
Unfortunately, the names of the MLAs who had defected to the TDP were still listed under the YSR Congress Party in the Assembly Bulletin issued on October 1.
The same bulletin showed MLAs Jyothula Nehru and Uppuleti Kalpana as Deputy Leaders of the YSR Congress Legislative Party though the party officially communicated that these two were removed from the positions following their defection to the TDP, Mr. Jagan wrote.
He also pointed out how Mr. Naidu inducted four of the YSR Congress MLAs into his Cabinet. And these Ministers would be answering the questions raised by the Opposition benches in the Assembly, the letter said.
Mr. Jagan wrote: “We brought this grave constitutional violation to the notice of all important constitutional institutions, but no action has been taken against those four Ministers and other defected MLAs. With the result, in the ensuing Assembly session, we have to live with humiliation of having to work with a government that is patently unconstitutional.”
Mr. Jagan charged Mr. Naidu and his partymen with indulging in large-scale corruption and squandering public money, and pushing the State into a huge debt.
A few buildings were built at three times the normal cost for a temporary capital and huge amount was spent for a “temporary irrigation project,” Pattiseema.
