From my experience game crashing is tied to Object Streaming Distance vs the amount of RAM in your computer.
32GB RAM computers supposedly don't experience crashing issues.
If you have less than 32GB RAM in your computer then you probably need to change this in-game graphics setting: "EXTRA STREAMING DISTANCE"
16GB RAM computers;
set to 5 = crash
set to 4 = crash
set to 2 or 3 = didn't crash
I've been using it set at 3 and have not experienced any further crashes.
Based on that data, the logical pattern would be:
set to 5 = computers with 32GB RAM or more
set to 4 = computers with 24GB RAM
set to 3 = computers with 16GB RAM
set to 2 = computers with 12GB RAM
set to 1 = computers with 8GB RAM
set to 0 = disabled pre-caching
The reason why I and some people may not experience crashing at the beginning of the game is because not much in the game is accessible to the player. And the tutorial and first mission are relatively small, linear parts of the game. From then on the game starts to open up to the player, which causes these RAM and pre-caching issues.
