A deadly bomb, planted by Naxal terrorists in Chhattisgarh, was disposed of on May 16. The mortar high-explosive bomb was found around 450 m from the Elmagunda camp in an area affected by left-wing extremism.
CRPF's CoBRA commandos got rid of the bomb via a controlled explosion. The blast was conducted in a forested area in Sukma. CoBRA, or Commando Battalion for Resolution Action's 206 Battalion's D Company neutralised the high-explosive bomb.
In March 2022, the Narendra Modi government had informed Parliament that the number of districts affected by Naxal terrorism had reduced from 96 in 2010, to 46 in 2021.
The government had claimed civilian and security force deaths had come down from an all-time high of 1,005 in 2010 to 147 in 2021.
