Will Chelsea regret selling Conor Gallagher this summer?
Despite heading for the exit door, Gallagher was one of the Stamford Bridge’s most important players last season
As a box-to-box midfielder, Gallagher was crucial in creating chances for Chelsea.
Only Cole Palmer finished the league season with more Key Passes and the midfielder averaged more assists per game than Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernández.
When we couple that with the fact that Gallagher finished first in Chelsea’s squad for most league interceptions and averaged more winning tackles per game than any other midfielder in the team, it’s clear that the player excelled at both ends of the pitch.
Which begs the question… why are Chelsea so determined to sell him?
Well, the club do have eight other central midfielders. And in Romeo Lavia and Christopher Nkunku they have players that can replace the defensive and offensive side to Gallaghers game.
And since he’s on the last year of his contract, it may make sense to sell Gallagher now and rebuild Enzo Maresca’s team around his numerous other options.
