Here's what you need to know about the Child Tax Credit ahead of filing your 2021 taxes.
One of the most popular financial provisions approved by Congress in response to the COVID-19 pandemic was the advance monthly child tax credit. And though it has now expired and its future in 2022 is uncertain, Democrats and at least one Senate Republican have expressed interest in extending it.
The monthly child tax credit was received by tens of millions of Americans and was estimated to help lift millions of low-income children out of poverty. The final monthly payment of 2021 went out Dec. 15 but there is still more of that money coming to Americans later this year.
