The US Navy's Los Angeles-based USS Pasadena nuclear submarine broke through the ice and surfaced in the Arctic during the next ICEX 2022 exercise. Connecticut on the east coast of the United States in the Arctic region in the immediate vicinity of the area of interest of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy. The boundaries of the area of possible actions of American submarines during the Ice Exercise 2022 exercise are located near the Franz Josef Land archipelago, on one of the islands of which the Russian Ministry of Defense base "Arctic Shamrock" is located.
