In this video, we have advised the farmers about the best method of application of commonly used DAP (diammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate fertilizer), Urea, Nitrophos, SSP (single super phosphate) and SOP (sulphate of potash, potassium sulfate fertilizer, potassium sulphate fertilizer) fertilizers in wheat crop. Application of DAP and SOP fertilizers are better to broadcast and shallow incorporation before planting provides better results. Due to one reason or other, if DAP is not used as basal application, its fertigation along the 1st irrigation may also serve the purpose. Zinc coated urea is better to apply through broadcast just before or after 1st or 2nd irrigation. Whereas, in case of heavy soils, simple urea fertilizer should be applied through fertigation in laser leveled fields and better to use in split applications in case of light and loam soils. Broadcast application of urea fertilizer a day after irrigation provides better results in light soils especially of Thal area. SSP is slow releasing fertilizer and better to apply at the time of rauni irrigation through broadcast method. Half amount of nitrophos should be broadcasted and shallow incorporated before planting and half fertigated along with 1st irrigation.
NPK and micronutrients are variably used by wheat crop at its different growth stages. Wheat plants need energy and organic matter for root development. Phosphate fertilizers are added at the sowing time for this purpose. Initial requirement nitrogen of wheat seedlings is met with basal application diammonium phosphate in most cases. Plants need NP and K in a well-balanced manner for tillering. We add most shares of nitrogen and zinc at the time of 1st irrigation. Basal application of P and K suffices and serves wheat in a better way. For stem elongation at jointing stage, plants need more amount of nitrogen for amino acids development, calcium for stem stiffness and K for resistance and movement of photosynthates. Most our calcareous soils do not need supplementary calcium, nitrogen is replenished at 2nd irrigation in most cases and basal application of K suffices its potassium requirements. In addition to proper amount of N and P, Plants need maximum amount of boron and potassium at booting, earing, pollination and milky stages. That is why, additional application of boron and potash is recommended at these stages. Readily available mixed fertilizers like NPK (13:02:43 or o5:15:45 and many others) plus boron are advised for maximum yield of wheat crop.
