The Warsaw Uprising anniversary saw the launch of a Polish translation of a book by George Szlachetko titled “Wira z Powstania” (Wira of Warsaw). Over the course of three years the author interviewed his Polish mother about her extraordinary life, which evolved into a true-life story of a girl soldier who fought for her country in World War II and then developed her life in political exile in Britain.
The author tells Radio Poland how he was struck with the idea of writing a memoir and how this affected his own self.
