In this episode of The Newshour Debate, anchor Navika Kumar will discuss how on July 24, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar asserted that a plot was afoot to overthrow the Karnataka Congress administration. After holding a press conference on Friday with former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of the BJP, Shivakumar made the remarks when he was questioned about former Chief Minister and JD (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy's trip to Singapore. Following the suspension of 10 BJP members by Speaker U T Khader for "indiscipline and unruly behaviour," both BJP and JD (S) lawmakers abstained from voting in the legislative session. HD Devegowda, leader of the JD(S) and former prime minister, stated that there were no intentions to join the NDA or create an alliance with the BJP. We are joined by Karnataka deputy CM DK Shivakumar who will be expressing his views on this matter. “There is no one who can destabilize our government. Some of my political friends are trying to speak to some of my legislators,” stated Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
