Jenkins is a free and open source automation server. It helps automate the parts of software development related to building, testing, and deploying, facilitating continuous integration and continuous delivery. It is a server-based system that runs in servlet containers such as Apache Tomcat. In our Interview, we discussed the Creation of the Jenkins Software Project with Kohsuke Kawaguchi. He shared his success story and experiences. We discussed Open Source crucial roles for engineers and also how Open Source helps engineers/Software.
Interviewee: Kohsuke Kawaguchi (Creator, Jenkins)
Kohsuke Kawaguchi is a computer programmer who is best known as the creator of the Jenkins software project, Co-CEO at Launchable Inc. While working at Sun Microsystems he was the primary developer of the Hudson project. He is also the recipient of the 2011 Google-O'Reilly Open Source Award for his work on the Jenkins project.
He is passionate about developer's productivity. He helped as a developer, building numerous open-source projects, most notably award-winning Jenkins, which enabled CloudBees. As the project and the company got bigger, became more of an enabler -- create and foster teams, communities, and nurture leaders, so that they do impactful work.
