Happy Fungus Friday from this slap happy compilation of Alaskan mushrooms! Although the tapping here has no real purpose, I do thoroughly enjoy the noise they make and the unique resonance of each individual mushroom. It is safe to touch mushrooms like this, even poisonous ones.

I feel compelled to say that I am not “destroying” these mushrooms. In area with thousands of mushrooms, I picked a few for educational and identification purposes. Mushrooms are inherently ephemeral structures that will disappear within a matter of days or weeks. Here I returned the mushrooms back the forest floor for the resident bugs and slugs after I was done documenting. Please do not leverage your judgements at me without examining your own practices. Me picking a couple of mushrooms in the woods doesn’t do any damage to the ecosystem in comparison to human activities (driving cars, single use plastics, eating meat, developing land for agriculture/housing, etc…).
