ABOUT THE HISTORY OF DURSUNBEY
During the Roman Civilization, the area around Dursunbey was called ABRIETIENE. The name of Dursunbey, which was the center in the Abriettene region, was Hadrianeia. Hadrianeia (Dursunbey) was one of the important coinage places during the Roman period. During the Roman Emperors period, important emperors and commanders such as Hadrian, Antonius, Pivs, Faustina, Marcus Aurelius had copper and silver coins bearing their names and images minted.
The name Hadrianeia comes from the famous Roman Emperor Hadrian. The name "Hadrianeia" given to the Dursunbey region indicates that it was probably a city founded in his honor. It is estimated that the city of Hadrianeia was founded in 131-132 AD.
During the Ottoman Empire, the Second Ottoman Sultan Orhan Gazi appointed Emir Dursun as the commander here; The district was called "Dursunbey" after Emir Dursun. Balat, which was previously connected to the Sanjak of Bursa, was later connected to the Sanjak of Karesi in the 19th century. While Dursunbey was a sub-district center called "Balat" under the Balıkesir Governorate, it gained the status of a Municipality in 1900. It was turned into a district in 1918. Dursunbey was occupied by the enemy during the War of Independence and was liberated on September 3, 1922.
DURSUNBEY GEOGRAPHICAL STRUCTURE
Located in the east of Balıkesir Province, Dursunbey's altitude is 672 m (2,204 ft) and its surface area is 1952 km². Dursunbey geographically falls within the borders of the Aegean Region. Due to its terrain structure, it has a mountainous and very rugged character. The highest mountain, Alaçam, is 1683 m high. Most of the district's land is covered with forest.
Dursunbey district is located in the Aegean climate region, but since it is high and closed to sea breezes, summers are cooler and winters are harsher and very cold. The district is located in the northern part of the Inner Western Anatolia (Inner Aegean) region (Kütahya), at the junction of the provinces of Kütahya-Balıkesir-Bursa. Therefore, the weather is cold enough to make it unsuitable for agriculture. For this reason, the vegetation period is quite short. The climate of the district has Continental Climate characteristics. Winters are cold, summers are hot, and winter and spring months receive plenty of precipitation.
ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE AND POPULATION OF DURSUNBEY
Dursunbey District, Dursunbey, was a sub-district center called "Balat" under the Balıkesir Governorate, but it gained the status of a Municipality in 1900. It was turned into a district in 1918. The district's source of income is forest and forest products, and fruit and vegetable production has also developed. The district has no sub-districts or villages, and consists of 9 centres, 101 rural neighbourhoods, and a total of 110 neighbourhoods.
Dursunbey is approximately between 39-58 north latitude and 26-62 east longitude and is located in the east of Balıkesir.
According to 2022 TUIK data, the total population is 33,333.
TOURISM
Suçıktı: It is the unique natural beauty created by water coming out of the ground as a spring. Since it is located right next to the city center, it is highly respected by our citizens, especially in the summer months. Trout production facilities that are located in the area and do not spoil the natural beauty add a special feature. The taste of a meal or a drink of tea with the sound of running water tastes completely different. The area where it is located has been further enriched with children's playgrounds, souvenir sales points and a mosque. Suçıktı is also a cultural center. The "Suçıktı Poetry Evenings" event, which is held every year in July and has become a tradition, has reached national dimensions.
