In 2022 hoteliers are accelerating their efforts to meet consumers where they are. One of the most significant trends has been the addition of pet-friendly services. The @aspcasays 23 million households acquired a pet during the pandemic, and not surprisingly, they want to bring their pets along on their next trip. They want properties that are pet-friendly, not just pet-tolerant. Hotels are introducing pet experts and pet packages with dog beds, food, treats, and guides to pet friendly activities. Wellness is another lasting trend. Cleanliness and COVID safety precautions are part of this but it goes further. People want new ways to relax including yoga and meditation as well as more plant-based menus. They also want more eco-friendly amenities such as refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles. It’s not just their personal health, but the health of the planet that’s on traveler’s minds.
And lastly, Moving check-in and service to digital apps. Travelers have spent more time than ever with technology and they know what it’s capable of. Why do they need to wait in lines or on the phone for anything? Hoteliers are responding, and replacing plastic key cards with phone based digital keys and contactless entry, and even room service and housekeeping requests are moving to the hotel app. But the entire tech doesn’t need to mean a less personal experience. On the contrary, hotels are using their new digital experiences to reach out to travelers prior to arrival and ensure they create the experience their guests expect. Many of these trends were in the works when the pandemic arrived, but they’ve been accelerating for several years. So get ready to book that spa visit with your pet on your phone. That doesn’t sound so bad!
