At this meeting, the Chicago Election Board received updates on or acted on the following:
- Progress toward the Oct. 10 opening of the new Early Voting downtown "Super Site" at 15 W. Washington St. (a former Walgreen's store), which will feature 150 pieces of voting equipment instead of the 45 balloting machines at 69 W. Washington.
- The upcoming Oct. 26 meeting of the Illinois State Board of Elections.
- Ongoing Early Voting at 69 W. Washington, which is seeing about 500 ballots cast daily.
- The receipt from the printers of all Chicago ballots and the start of sending ballots to civilian (inside the United States) Vote By Mail applicants. (The dispatch of ballots to military/overseas voters from Chicago began in mid-September.)
- Email activity increasing with: questions about voter registration status; additional applications for ballot from military/overseas voters; and questions from poll workers.
- Plans are to send a mass mailing to all voter households on Oct. 20, designed to reach mailboxes right before the Oct. 24 opening of the 50 ward sites for Early Voting.
- Approved the agreement for purchasing "I VOTED! DID YOU?" wristbands to distribute to voters.
- Acknowledged receipt of the BKD report that reviewed the post-election audit processes and procedures.
- Briefly discussed how a US District Court decision, which currently is under appeal, could prohibit Election Day Registration in the precinct polling places.
- After meeting in executive session, unanimously agreed to file a motion and an amicus brief in the federal litigation regarding Election Day Registration.
The next Board meeting will be on Oct. 11, 2016.
