It is widely used in pregnancy.
Usage of ultrasound
1st trimester
6 to 8 weeks
Size of CRL ( crown rump length) shows the measurement of a fetus.
Heart rate of the fetus
Estimated due date (EDD)
Single or multiple Sac/Fetus.
2nd trimester
Baby’s heart rate
Look for abnormalities in her brain, heart, kidneys, and liver.
Baby’s fingers and toes
Check for birth defects.
Placement of the placenta.
Measures the amniotic fluid level.
Get a 3D/4D view which will offer a glimpse of your baby’s nose and bone structure.
3rd trimester
Closely monitor your baby’s growth.
To rule out low levels of amniotic fluid, bleeding, and preterm contractions.
Cervix was covered by the placenta at a 20-week scan.
