Security has been stepped up in the Chinese capital Beijing ahead of the latest session of China’s parliament, which gets under way on March 5, 2023. The annual meeting is expected to result in the biggest Chinese government reshuffle in a decade. It will also announce a series of fiscal budgets of central and local governments, as well as plans for the country’s economic recovery in the post-pandemic era. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a political advisory body, will also be held on March 4. Together, the annual gatherings are known as lianghui, or "two sessions”.
