Sky News Australia’s Political Editor Andrew Clennell says the latest Newspoll is “good news” for Anthony Albanese after results show Australians are backing the Prime Minister on his decision to scrap the stage three tax cuts.
The Newspoll revealed 62 per cent of Australians support the Albanese government's changes to the stage three tax cuts, with only 29 per cent believing they should have kept their word and nine per cent undecided.
Despite the results, the two-party preferred vote remains the same since the last Newspoll in December despite the national support for the tax overhaul.
Labor sits at 52 per cent to the Coalition's 48 per cent.
“I think this is unambiguously good news for the government,” Mr Clennell said.
“If you consider what they’ve been through, the failure of the Voice, Airbus Albo … cost of living, 12 rate hikes and now a broken promise which affects some people who have voted for them and they’ve been able to maintain an election-winning lead.
"So I think considering how it could have gone after breaking this promise, it's good news."
