The Battle of Moscow was a critical turning point in World War II. It took place between October 2, 1941, and January 7, 1942 and marked a major Soviet victory over the Nazi German forces. The battle occurred after Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union, known as Operation Barbarossa, began in June 1941.
The German Army, under Adolf Hitler’s orders, aimed to quickly conquer the Soviet Union, with Moscow being the primary target as the political and industrial center of the country.
The Germans were confident of an easy victory due to the initial success of their invasion, which had swept through much of Eastern Europe, forcing the Soviet army into retreat.
