I live in Prague and have visited the castle many times. I love to walk around the area. There are many things to discover each time that you didn't know were there.
It's uphill mostly so prepare with water if it's in the summer time.
If you're visiting in the winter, it gets cold and windy.
There are multiple tours that cover the area.
Make sure to visit St. Vitus and the museum located at the castle if that's your thing.
If you go in the evening after everything is closed, there will be almost no other people or tourists there and you can get some wonderful pictures.
The trams go right up there and the metro also goes to the base with a short walk up of about 10 minutes at normal pace.
Panorama pictures from various points are a must as you get to see for many miles and lots of historical and tourists tic sites can be seen from the top of the hill.
Petrin tower is also nearby about 10-15 minutes walk depending on pace.
For a small fee, you can climb to the top and get a much wider and higher view of Prague.
