I was driving my 2005 Chevy Avalanche for about an hour straight, and as I approached my destination, I smelled the familiar scent of burning brakes. I assumed it wasn't me because the truck didn't seem to be slowing down on it's own. However, I was wrong. When I got home, my right front wheel was incredibly hot. So hot, that you could not touch it. I removed my wheel and tire, and found a caliper piston that was sticking due to a ripped caliper boot. This prevented the piston from going back into its bore, and caused my brakes to burn. A new brake caliper was about $60, but came with a $40 core charge. It took about 30 minutes to swap out and bleed properly. Now, the truck is working properly again!
