দেশের প্রথম কাঁকড়া হ্যাচারি - Crab Farming Technology IFAD | Nouabeki Gonomukhi Foundation | PKSF
As an export-oriented subsector, crab culture has special significance in Bangladesh’s economy. The prospect of crab culture encouraged microentrepreneurs to engage them in this subsector. For crab fattening, crab farmers of Satkhira district have been dependent on natural sources like rivers and canals of Sundarbans to collect small crabs for many years. The collection of small crabs in huge quantities can have negative consequences on the environment and the conservation of biodiversity. So, reducing dependency on the natural sources for crab culture is very important to protect the natural environment and biodiversity of Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world. Considering the issues, to promote this export-oriented sub-sector through producing crablets (crab fries), PKSF established a crab hatchery in Shymnagar, Satkhira through NGF with the technical support of the Center for Education and Community Development (CECD) a development organization of Vietnam. The hatchery was established under promoting agricultural commercialization (PACE) project jointly financed by PKSF and International Agricultural Development Fund (IFAD). The first-ever crab hatchery of the country has become successful as it started production. With the expansion of this sector, more employment opportunities will be created for the rural poor which in turn will have a positive impact on the rural economy.
