Weekly fishing reports for Long Island and Metro New York at [ Ссылка ]
With April 1st and the openings of flounder and blackfish seasons fast approaching, it’s striped bass that are finding their way into this week’s report. More surprising is the talk of a few early arriving blues on the west end of the South Shore and Staten Island. A number of tackle shops across the Island are expanding hours and stocking up on baits and chum in anticipation of the flounder and tog openings. Striped bass season on the Hudson River north of the Mario Cuomo Bridge (Tappan Zee) opens April 1, while the Marine District is set to open on April 15.
A handful of open boats will target flounder, blackfish and cod over the next couple of weeks, but the majority will be kicking off their schedules at mid-month, while others are holding off until the May 1 opening of porgy season, and fluke season that same week. If you’re planning a trip, it’s probably a good idea to check the sailing schedule with your captain. On the freshwater side, trout waters will be getting another shot of fish prior to April first to give that fishing another shot in the arm.
