It's the first time I've been to an official Thai engagement party and it was nothing like the ones I've been to in Australia. One might say they are very formal in an informal way but there was one standout in my mind in that no party goes down without lots of food! One thing I wasn't aware of in the tradition is the symbolism of 'tieing the knot' which I thought was only a western tradition. Seems like it has been practised in the Asian culture for quite some time. Well, the two of them seem quite happy together and we wish them all the good fortune in these tough economic times. Of course, no party can be complete without going to a temple to make merit and buy this months lottery tickets!
