A day after rape and murder accused Pritam Sharma was nabbed by police after a massive manhunt, citizens took out rallies in solidarity with the victim who was last seen alive on April 10. At 5 pm, citizens gathered at MG Marg in the heart of Gangtok, offering their thoughts and prayers for the departed soul. The initiative was named “save daughter initiative”. The victim’s father, in a brief speech, thanked Sikkim police for arresting the culprit within 72 hours.
"The police and the IB were able to catch the culprit within 72 hours, and I would like to thank them. The officers concerned have also assured me that my family will get justice for the crime. I would like to appeal to everyone to pray for my daughter," he said.
Earlier in the day, concerned citizens of Sikkim from different organizations took out a protest rally from Amdo Golai to the District Administrative Centre on Indira by pass road in the capital. They carried placards and raised slogans demanding justice for the departed soul. Similarly, students of Sikkim University, standing in solidarity with the victim, held a candlelight vigil at Cauvery Hall of Sikkim University in 5th mile, Tadong.
