We're always talking about lightweight apps - little pieces of interactive user experience that sit between our intended users and our giant piles of code, but it's often lumped into pure software development, or hosted via an array of third party tools. The past couple of years have seen a boom in lightweight UI frameworks that can be hosted directly within your platforms, removing a lot of the complexity whilst still giving users an interactive experience, and that's exactly what Databricks Apps are all about.
