The Fairy Creek blockade has been going for months to prevent the logging of some of the last old-growth forests on Vancouver Island.
There’s over 5 km of road-building approved into the Greater Fairy Creek Rainforest, including into the headwaters of the intact valley known as “Cloud Forest,” which is home to some of the oldest yellow cedar trees in Canada. The Fairy Creek blockade is the last stand to protect these forests.
The BC Supreme Court granted an injunction against the blockades earlier this year and activists are expecting RCMP enforcement. Since they don’t plan on backing down, arrests are likely.
