The red-flowering Orchid Cactus, Disocactus ackermannii (formerly aka Epiphyllum ackermannii or also Nopalxochia ackermannii), is a fantastic epiphytic cactus that is quite easy to grow in most cactus and other succulent plant collections. It originally grows on trees in it's natural habitat in southern Mexico and was first scientifically described already way back in 1829! It has been in cultivation since and is grown and found in plant collections all around the world these days. It's large, magnificent red flowers start showing early in the growing year and for me, in my collection, they are always a sure sign that Spring is finally here!!

A fantastic epiphytic cactus that I can whole-heartedly recommend growing!
