A visit to Glendalough in Co. Wicklow is sure to calm your mind, inspire your heart, and fill your soul. An important monastic site in Ireland can be found in Glendalough. Founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century, this early Christian monastic settlement became the 'Monastic City'. The majority of buildings that remain today date from the 10th to 12th centuries. One of Wicklow's and Ireland's most scenic locations is the Glendalough Upper Lake, carved by an ancient glacier. In terms of size, Wicklow Mountains National Park is the largest of Ireland's six National Parks, covering 20,483 hectares. Located in the east of the country, it is also the only one of its kind.
